The book Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat Is written by Lynne Jonell.  In the book, Emmy a lonely orphan girl, was a good girl.  Well tried very hard to be a good girl.  She did her homework without being asked, she ate all the veggies she was given to eat, even the slimy ones.  And Some times she figured out she was a little too good.  That is a reason she liked to sit and talk to a cantankerous talking rat.  Like the shrinking  rat, Emmy’s nanny is doing verry, verry bad things.  So, she had to pay the price.  If  you are wondering why the “shinking rat” is called a “shrinking rat” heres your answer.  The rat don’t shrink, instead if it bites humans two times, they shrink and turn into a rat.   If youy want to find out more, read the book!

I finished the book Year of the Dog by Grace Lin.  In the book, it’s about time for chinese new year of the dog.  The main character, Pacy, finds from her mother this year is a good to make friends, family and “finding herself’”, Pacy starts looking  right away.  As her year continues, she has a little trouble finding her talent.  Also, goes through disappointment, but makes a new best friend and learns why the year of the dog is a good, lucky one for her after everything that happened. I thought the book was funny and profound novel.  When other readers read it, I think they will like it As much as I did.

The battle of the books is a competition about The Sunshine State Readers Award. We had to take a qualifying test.   A fifthgrade teacher asks all the questions, her name is Mrs. Lipsky. You sit at a table with a bell and a list of titles and authors.  Each team gets its own question for each round.  If the team gets it wrong, Mrs.Lipsky says other teams, and any team can buzz in for 3 points. ( thats only in round 1 and 2) If you got eliminated  the first battle, you had a chance to get a popcicle party if you cheer for a random team that made it. I Got to be one of the battlers! (along with other people: Marissa, Coleton, and Michel) The preliminary battle was first.  I was happy that I made it to the semi-finals,battle #2.   A Lot of teams got eliminated in the preliminaries. Our team came first place at the semi-finals.  That told our team we had to compete against the top 5th grade team. 5th grade vs 3rd grade, here we go.  Also if we win against the 5th, we win a pizza party for our whole class.

I totally hate being stressed.  It happened.  I had a gifed musical that was that night.  Make-up and stuff, not my type at all.  Except the poodle skirt and plain white blouse, that’sall.  My friend Madison  was in the same dance,  for me I just was myself.  but in some ways it was exiting.  I got to preform in front of the whole school!  My teacher last year , Mrs.Lankford,  was rockn’ out!  My most  favorite song is You really got me.  It really the beat I like.  Other then that I really was stressed.

I read a book called Rules,  by Cynthia Lord.In the book, the main characters are Kathrine, Jason, there was another character named David.(He was mentioned only a few times) there were other characters like Kristi and Ryan.  Kristy is David and Kathrine’sneighbor.  David  is Kathrine’s younger brother he has autism.  In the book, there were chapters that explained him.  For example, the book had a chapter called,Pant-less Brothers are my Problem. (But for me,I don’t have any brothers.)  Kathrine meets Jason at occupational therapy.  He is in a wheelchair.  Jason also can’t talk. He uses a communication book .  Every week Kathrine usually would give Jason cards for his communication book.  Kathrine’s life has been a challenge, but she finds a way to have fun, even if its a chalange.    she also learns that you can like someone even if they are diffrent.

H ave you ever been to Ohio?  For Thanksgiving [year2008], I went to Rootstown, Ohio to see my dad’s family members. We were staying at my aunt Mary Ann’s house.  My favorite part of her house is the basement.  Its sort of like a playroom. A lot of my dad’s family members live in the north.  I always wished at least SOME of those family members lived in Jacksonville, Florida.  It usually takes us two days to get to the north.  On our way I saw snow and the Blue Ridge mountains.
This what they looked like:

Aren’t those mountains beautiful?   Lunch on trip always refreshing to me, but my sister thinks its a pains is .  Every time we eat lunch on trips, my little sister says,” I’m full”, after like five bites her of food.  When we got there, Aunt Mary made some of her famous lasagna. [I told it was really only famous to her family]  Hey! well at least it hurt her feelings!  After dinner, my sister and I went to the basement.  there was a new thing in the basement.  It was a hoop for a ball.  That was kinda I could stick my hand in the hoop easy as pie!  [That was kinda hard for my sister.]  My dad called us up for bed.  Before went to bed I had to watch baby Einsteins.  [I DIDN'T wantto, but it was for my sister]  When I think about the trip(it was few days ago) I think of how I liked it.  I had tons fun that day!
